My work speaks to how racism divides the fabric of kinship, separating us from home and erasing us from history and from archives. I am a migrant born in Africa and although privileged educationally, every single day I live with the trauma of separation from my ancestral home, India, my mother tongue, and all its aftermaths. My story is one of many marginalised immigrants for whom the dominance of whiteness, language and colonialism impacts in various ways to deplete the individual and the family.
