Sonnets from the Portuguese
I’ve taken up a blogging stint for Southerly in June. It’s meant to be an eight hundred word blog a week for the month: quite a challenge, which I’m not sure I’m prepared for but let’s see how I go. I’m following on from a series of excellent posts by Kate Middleton, Angela Meyer, Toby Fitch, Tracey Ryan, Pip Smith. I’ve been doing some reading and thinking around writing themes and ideas that interest me, as well a trip yesterday to the local library, itself an interesting encounter.
Anyway, here’s a link to my first entry…. a few thoughts on Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese, which explores her interest in Camões and her Jamaican slave background ~
